This course emphasizes a whole body based feeding approach and will explain infant reflexes, movement milestones, symmetry and coordination as it relates to infant feeding. Come sharpen your assessment skills and learn foundational movements to enhance your treatments and/or refer out to professionals as needed.
This course is for any feeding therapist who is licensed to work in a baby's mouth (IBCLC, CLC, OT, SLP, PT)
⚡️ You will learn entry level/baseline exercises so you can start to lay a solid feeding foundation for the babies that you treat.
⚡️ The goal of this course is to help you learn to peel back the layers of compensation so you can find your way to the root cause of feeding dysfunction.
The course will cover:
Performing a full body assessment
Symmetry (tort/plagio)
Visual skills/Eyes
Compensation patterns
Breathing/airway
Muscle tone
Infant Reflexes and their relevance - (full body, not just oral reflexes)
Head control
Nervous System
Coordination vs oral motor skills
Vestibular system with eyes
Oral Exam Skills - Functional relevance/ How does function impact form?
Sucking Skills - jaw strength and endurance/phasic bite, stability
Regulation for parent and baby
Understanding of when to refer out to a specialist and who is the most appropriate
