Jaime

(she/her)

Jaime is a pediatric OT and early intervention specialist who is passionate about working with infants and children to help them thrive in all stages of their development. Jaime spent the first four years of her career as a special education teacher working with children with autism. She loved her students, but she wanted to work with kids in a more holistic way, so OT was calling her name. Jaime graduated with a doctorate in OT and a certificate in early intervention from Georgia State University. During that time, Jaime spent a year learning from Nat and immersing herself in their holistic approach to OT. Jaime has years of experience working with kids of all ages and has extensive knowledge of infant development, early intervention, and reflex integration. Jaime has a 1-year-old son, Micah, and loves spending time with him, her husband, and their two dogs.

A bit of Nat/Áha OT history:

the "WHY" behind it all

Sometime around 2015, Nat's eyes were opened to the world of reflex integration, which completely transformed their practice.  Finally, Nat was seeing skills were sticking and carrying over to other aspects of daily life that just weren't happening before for their patients.  It was the "foundational" approach to therapy that Nat had been trying to figure out for years.

After a couple of years of learning to integrate or inhibit retained reflexes, Nat began to ask WHY.  Why were all of these kids retaining these reflexes from infancy into childhood?  What was happening developmentally to change their trajectory?  Nat needed to know.

So . . . Nat dove headfirst into infant development courses.  They quickly learned about the importance of human connection and emotional regulation in early infancy, as well as the developmental importance of strong breathing and oral motor skills to support a lifetime of healthy growth.  It was now all starting to make sense.

The next step was to start working with infants, and to put all of this new knowledge to the test.  Nat, alongside some incredible mentors and colleagues, has spent the past 7 years mastering their understanding of infant development to not only become an infant development specialist, but to create what is now the foundation of Áha OT - a holistic airway focused approach to therapy - for children of all ages.

COLLABORATIVE . . .

Why an OT Collaborative?

Because at any given moment, our team can be found collaborating with like-minded colleagues such as:

  • dentist (DDS)

  • lactation consultant (IBCLC)

  • ENT

  • speech language pathologist (SLP)

  • myofunctional therapist (OMT)

  • chiropractor (DC)

  • massage therapist (LMT)

  • psychologist (Psy. D)

  • craniosacral therapist (CST)

Over the years, we have learned that it truly takes a village to ensure that each child receives the right care for them.

What is an Airway Centric Practice?

Being an airway-centric practice means we don’t just look at whether your kid can grip a crayon or sit in a chair— we start with the basics: can they actually breathe well? Because if breathing is a struggle, everything else—eating, sleep, focus, movement—has to work twice as hard. Airway comes first, skills come easier.

Common Airway/Breathing Red Flags

  • Mouth breathing (during the day or night)

  • Snoring or noisy breathing during sleep

  • Frequent open-mouth posture / lips not closing at rest

  • Drool

  • Mouthing habits (chewing on shirts, hands, other non-food items)

  • Restless sleep or frequent night wakings

  • Forward head posture or “slouchy” sitting

  • Difficulty chewing/swallowing certain foods

  • Speech that sounds nasal or muffled

  • Chronic congestion without illness

  • Frequent fatigue, irritability, or trouble focusing

Parent & Therapist Testimonials

Your transparency is Incredible and your passion is infectious . . . I was thoroughly interested and remained engaged with the content from start to finish (even my ADHD couldn't stop me! haha)

- IBCLC (lactation consultant)

The flow is laid back but also packed full of important and practical information for understanding how breathing and babies can be very multifaceted. I feel more comfortable bringing information to families about the whole body processes involved with breathing and the influence they can have on feeding and development. I am inspired and feel more confident in how I can best support individual dyads.

- IBCLC (lactation consultant)

After seeing Nat, I’ve completely stepped away from adding a small amount (1tsp 1/4 to every 3 oz) of formula to the bottle. I did this just as an experiment to see how many fluid ounces she could eat without formula. She has increased her fluid intake and is now regularly drinking between 4 and 6 ounces each feeding! Typically 4-5 oz. This is SO huge! She has hardly ever been able to take in more that 3 fluid oz per feeding - with or without formula. . . . She also has shifted into sleeping much better the past two days! YAY!!

- mom to baby K.

Just wanted to say how much I’ve appreciated this mentorship! Thank you so much Nat! I had one of the best evals ever today and I’m 1000% sure it’s related to how much I’ve learned and been able to better put the pieces together 🙌🏼
